Guided by the successful completion of all previous studies, each student will progress to painting the model in oil using limited and then full color palettes over a carefully studied underpainting. In these extended projects the model will be posed under north light in our advanced studio, allowing a natural range of the chromatic scale to be studied in detail.

Painting out of doors will be introduced first as a series of color sketches, then as a sustained project to support and enrich studio work with the figure. Working from the surrounding grounds and gardens of our Weymouth Studio, this course will investigate new challenges, from the selection of subject matter to the application of pigment.
